Hi there! I’m James Gillen.

I am a voice and dialect coach, and musician based in Los Angeles. I love using my voice to tell stories, and to help others develop their craft and pursue their creative goals.

Growing up outside of Philadelphia, I spent my youth watching movies, reading, and playing video games - getting lost in the stories and worlds that fascinated me. I began performing and using my voice at a young age, singing in choirs and acting on stage. Storytelling and performing have been a core part of my life for as long as I can remember.

I received my bachelor’s degree at Berklee College of Music, where I studied vocal performance, video game and film audio, and music directing for theater. During my time at Berklee, my three closest friends and I formed The Bean Tones, originally conceived as a barbershop quartet that performed around Boston, but now an active vocal jazz quartet that performs across the country.

After my undergraduate studies, I decided to pursue my fascination with voice work further at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in England, where I received an MFA in Professional Voice Studies. I studied spoken voice performance techniques in-depth and became an experienced accent and dialect coach.

While continuing my career as a working musician, I now work as a voice and dialect coach for the stage and screen - my deep love and knowledge of accents brings me immense joy and fulfillment as I help actors and clients bring their characters to life.
